Blend Modes | Luminosity Blend Mode

Blend modes, also known as blending modes are use to determine how colors from two or more layers interact and blend together to create a composite image. in this Article, you will learn about Adobe Photoshop “LUMINOSITY” blend mode and what it is used for, with image to practice with. How to Open PSD file
Double click on the downloaded PSD file, if you've installed Photoshop, it will automatically open.

Luminosity Blend Mode: Is used mostly by artist as an x-ray for images. When used with a color fill that is 50% gray, it shows you how saturated the colors in the underlying image are.

Practice 01:
1. Change the “Color Fill” adjustment layer blend mode to “Luminosity”
What will happen is it shows you how saturated the colors are in the underlying image

It is also be used alongside adjustment layers, like the “Exposure” adjustment layer to brighten image.

Practice 02:
1. Turn off the “Color Fill” adjustment layer by clicking on the eye icon
2. Turn on the “Exposure” adjustment layer, click on the eye icon to turn it on
3. Change it blend mode to “Luminosity”
What will happen is it makes the exposure adjustment layer to only brighten the underlying image (the image below) without saturating it colors
